How to Let Customers Choose Products and Quantities in a Bundle
Each part of a bundle is a component. The component type sets what customers receive and what they choose. The quantity sets how many items they get.
Choose a component type
In Bundly, open the bundle and click Add component.
| Option | What customers do | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Add variant | They receive the variant you select. They don't choose anything. | The item is the same for every customer. |
| Add product | They receive the product and choose its variant, such as size or color. | Every customer gets this product. |
| Add collection | They choose products from the collection. | Customers build their own bundle. |
| Create collection | The same as Add collection. | You don't have a collection for this bundle yet. |
Set the quantity
Click a component to open it. New components start with a quantity of 1.
Variants and products
Variants and products have one Quantity field. The customer chooses once and gets that many of the same item. For example, a T-shirt with a quantity of 2 gives the customer 2 T-shirts in the same size.
To let customers choose a different size for each T-shirt, add the product to a collection. Then use Add collection instead.
Collections
Collections have a Quantity menu with 4 options:
| Option | What customers pick | The bundle page shows |
|---|---|---|
| Exact quantity | Exactly this number | Select 3 |
| Minimum quantity | This number or more | Select 3 or more |
| Maximum quantity | Up to this number. They can also skip this component. | Select up to 3 |
| Quantity range | Any number from the minimum to the maximum | Select between 2 and 4 |
Good to know:
- Customers can't add the bundle to the cart until they pick enough items.
- Customers can pick the same item more than once. To show a quantity selector on added items, turn on Show quantity selector for added products in the theme editor.
- A Maximum quantity of 1 shows as "Optional" on the bundle page.
- If every component uses Maximum quantity, customers must still pick at least 1 item.
Common setups
| You want | Set it up like this |
|---|---|
| Any 3 greeting cards | 1 collection with Exact quantity set to 3 |
| 3 greeting cards and 3 stickers | 2 collections, each with Exact quantity set to 3 |
| Any 6 items, mixed from cards and stickers | 1 collection with both cards and stickers, with Exact quantity set to 6 |
| One main item and an optional extra | 1 collection with Exact quantity set to 1, and 1 collection with Maximum quantity set to 1 |
| A T-shirt in the customer's size and the same cap for everyone | Add product for the T-shirt and Add variant for the cap |
Each component has its own quantity rule. You can't set one total across 2 collections. To let customers mix freely from 2 groups of products, put both groups in one collection.
Sell several bundle sizes
One bundle has one quantity setup and one price. To sell 3, 5, and 7 items at different prices, create a separate bundle for each size.
How quantity affects the price
With No discount, Percentage discount, and Fixed amount discount, the price depends on the items that the customer picks.
With Fixed price, the price stays the same for any number of items. For example, with a Quantity range of 2 to 4, customers pay the same for 4 items as for 2.
With Minimum quantity, customers can add as many items as they want for that one price. If you use Fixed price, we recommend Exact quantity.
If a product doesn't appear in the bundle
Bundly shows a message on the component in the bundle editor. The common causes are:
- The product isn't published to the Online Store.
- The product status is Draft. For a product in a collection, Unlisted has the same effect.
- The collection has no products.
- The product is a combined listing, another bundle, or sold only with purchase options. These can't be in a bundle.
